When Adolphus Busch introduced the Budweiser “Bohemian-style” pale lager in 1876, it quickly became a hit in America. In 2008, reports the St. Louis Business Journal, a 50.9 % market share for all beers sold in the United States of America has held by the Busch family corporation Anheuser-Busch. Belgian-Brazilian beer magnate InBev bought off many of the Anheuser-Busch stock later that year. Thus, America’s “King of Beers” became “de Koning van Bieren” and sales sagged. Anheuser-Busch InBev plans to give away totally free beer on September 29 during National Happy Hour as Budweiser, accounts St. Louis Today.

Around 500,000 free Budweiser beer samples in 6- and 12-ounce sample sizes, based on local and state rules, can be given out by participating bars and restaurants. The share of the market for Budweiser dropped from 26 % in 1988 to 9.3 % which is why the “Grab some Buds” marketing campaign will go from September 25 through October 3. Drinkers in their mid-20s are the corporation’s primary target, as market studies have found that approximately 40 percent of beer drinkers aged 21 to 27 have never even touched de Koning van Bieren.
Anheuser-Busch InBev President Dave Peacock said, “We want to close that gap,” to St. Louis Today.
Texas sells the deep fried beer
Mark Zable is the one to discover in case you are ever drinking at the 2010 Texas State Fair. He makes deep-fried beer which complements the de Koning van Bieren beers with it. Salty pretzel dough pockets are filled with beer, then dunked in 375-degree oil for 20 seconds. That’s long enough to cook the batter, however not long enough to burn away the alcoholic content of the filling. The London Telegraph reports that diners find the treat delicious, and that Zable is trying to patent the cooking process, which may or may not contain other secret ingredients.
Mark Zable uses Guinness in them though. There isn’t any Koning van Bieren.
