When Adolphus Busch introduced the Budweiser “Bohemian-style” pale lager in 1876, it quickly became a hit in America. In 2008, reports the St. Louis Business Journal, a 50.9 % market share for all beers sold in the United States of America has held by the Busch family corporation Anheuser-Busch. Belgian-Brazilian beer magnate InBev bought off many of the Anheuser-Busch stock later that year. Thus, America’s “King of Beers” became “de Koning van Bieren” and sales sagged. Anheuser-Busch InBev plans to give away totally free beer on September 29 during National Happy Hour as Budweiser, accounts St. Louis Today.
Budweiser is free with the marketing
Participating bars and restaurants could be supplying about 500,000 totally free Budweiser beer samples. These will come, depending on local and state rules, in 6- and 12-ounce sample sizes. The marketing campaign “Grab some Buds” will run September 25 through Oct. 3 in a massive effort to raise Budweiser United States share of the market, which had dropped to 9.3 % after a high of 26 percent in 1988. Evidently, drinkers ages 21 to 27 have not ever even picked up de Koning van Bieren meaning the marketing is mostly to drinkers in their mid-20s.
Anheuser-Busch InBev President Dave Peacock said, “We want to close that gap,” to St. Louis Today.
Deep fried beer in Texas
Mark Zable is the one to find in case you are ever drinking at the 2010 Texas State Fair. He makes deep-fried beer which complements the de Koning van Bieren beers with it. 375-degree oil is what is used to fry the salty pretzel dough filled with beer. It only takes 20 seconds to fry. The dough can be cooked enough after that time. Of course, the alcohol won’t be burned off though. The public really enjoys the treat, reports the London Telegraph. This is why Zable hopes the cooking process can be patented really soon.
For the record, Mark Zable uses Guinness. Sorry, Koning van Bieren.
